Welcome!

I’m Lindsey Sherwin and I’m a Registered Drama Therapist, Expressive Arts Therapies Practitioner, and Performance /Creativity Coach based in New York City and New Jersey specializing in working with youth, young adults, families, and creative professionals (artists, actors, writers, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs with careers in the arts.

I hold a Master’s of Social Science in Applied Sociology from Birkbeck, University of London in the United Kingdom and went on to earn my professional credential as a Certified Registered Drama Therapist from the North American Drama Therapy Association with extensive training as an Expressive Arts Therapy Practitioner through the Trauma Informed Practices & Expressive Arts Therapy Institute and The Living Arts Counseling Center based in California and currently completing a second Master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling.

I work with young adults to address a wide range of mental and emotional stressors. Previously, I developed a 6 month holistic mental health training program based on social-emotional skill development for teens and young adults.

I am passionate about bringing creativity through the use of metaphors to healing and uses a combination of art, drama, dance movement, guided meditation, imagery, narrative and poetry therapy, existential, spiritual, somatic embodiment, mindfulness, gestalt therapy, functional family therapy, and reality therapy throughout her sessions.

I believe in learning and working with the intention to support inner personal growth, the development of imagination, and the integration of spiritual expansion using person-centered and intermodal expressive arts infused counseling and therapeutic creative approaches to optimize mental health and wellness/well-being.

Expressive Arts is experiential, co-creative, and a collaborative process whereby clients take agency of their own process. With a varied toolkit of verbal and expressive therapies, she meets each client where they are with patience and empathy; and walks with them as they figure out where they want to be to get there with self-awareness and personal resilience.

Throughout my training and professional career, I have worked in a variety of both clinical and non-clinical settings which include foster care agencies, respite programs, residential group homes, outpatient community mental health facilities.

Additionally, I have gained post-graduate training in psychology and theatre performance and multiple trainings on trauma and resilience-focused approaches having trained and practiced Functional Family Therapy at NY Foundling Hospital, Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care.

I have extensive experience specializing in working with youth with relational challenges, identity development, self-worth, and post-traumatic stress.

I am the founder of the Create Your Shift: “Narrative Puzzle Piecesz” a 12-week therapeutic expressive arts and relational resilience program committed to supporting young adults as well as artist clients.

My perspective of the therapeutic process is rooted in the consistent development and nurturing of the therapeutic alliance built on trust, mutuality, acceptance and cultural empathy. I utilize evidence-informed approaches infused with the expressive arts to help clients identify their strengths and internal resources to grow and embrace their identities as well as to explore them through the creative and performance process as well as the expressive therapies. In my work as a drama and expressive arts therapist, I utilize restorative practices and body based work to address the unhealed or unexpressed parts that often go unnoticed.

In my work with clients, healing is discovered through the inside-out.

In addition to providing creative arts-based therapeutic services, I offer facilitated professional trainings and provide workshops and customized presentations depending on your group’s needs on various topics such as:

  • Healing through the Expressive Arts for Teens and Young adults

  • Resilience and Parenting Skills (Child-Parent Relationships)
